About Hardaway | Sziabowski

History

Dick Hardaway established Hardaway Associates Inc. in 1976, after eight years with several prominent architectural firms and four years as Chief Architect for National Medical Care. He was joined in 1997 by Rob De Vries, a hospital architect, formerly a Principal of Payette Associates. Joe Sziabowski became the third Principal in 2006, with 20 years of institutional, health care, and commercial experience. In 2015, the firm became Hardaway | Sziabowski, after Joe became a partner of the company. Although we have undertaken a wide variety of building types, after 1990 we gradually increased our focus on health care and residential work, while continuing to serve private commercial clients.

Guiding Principles

Process: We strive to manage the process of design and construction professionally and competently. We work quickly, we adhere to budgets and schedules, we check our work and we return telephone calls. We are responsive to our clients’ needs and wishes. We solve problems.
Results: Our goal is to provide practical and usable buildings, which meet our clients’ needs and budgets. In addition, we attach great importance to aesthetic design. A number of our projects have been honored with design awards, and have been widely published in consumer media, architectural and technical journals.

Project Types

We undertake a wide range of building types in the health care, residential, and private commercial sectors. Projects include outpatient medical facilities, medical office buildings, hospitals, single and multi-family residences, retail stores, offices, banks and industrial buildings. We are one of the nation’s preeminent specialists in ambulatory surgical centers, having designed over a hundred such facilities in 23 different states. We are equally versed in remodeling and new construction, and have master planning and interior design capabilities as well.
